About this show
**Only Seungmu: Lee Chul-jin's Dance** Every Monday in 2026, *Only Seungmu* takes the stage at Sungkyun Small Theater in Daehangno, Seoul. *Seungmu* (僧舞), or "Monk's Dance," is one of Korea's most celebrated traditional dance forms. Rooted in Buddhist spiritual practice, it explores the depths of human emotion through refined, disciplined movement. The sweeping lines of the *jangsam* (ceremonial robe), the controlled breath and rhythm, and the philosophy of "stillness within motion" together create a world of quiet intensity — life and contemplation held in perfect balance. This performance features Lee Chul-jin, a master dancer who carries on the authentic lineage of the Seungmu tradition passed down through Han Seong-jun, Han Yeong-suk, and Lee Ae-ju. Having devoted decades to this single art form, Lee brings to the stage the full philosophical weight and accumulated depth of a lifetime's practice. Every gesture, every breath reveals the marks of long dedication and artistic mastery. Running as an open-ended engagement, *Only Seungmu* invites audiences to sit with the quiet power of movement — and to meet something of themselves in the stillness.
