**PROGRAM** **Antonín Dvořák** Piano Trio No. 4 in E minor, Op. 90, "Dumky" **Ludwig van Beethoven** Variations on "Ich bin der Schneider Kakadu," Op. 121a ("Kakadu Variations") **Paul Schoenfield** Cafe Music --- Dvořák's beloved "Dumky" Trio takes its name from the *dumka* (plural: *dumky*), a Slavic folk form that alternates between deep melancholy and spirited joy. This six-movement work is one of his most personal and heartfelt compositions. Beethoven's "Kakadu Variations" is a witty and inventive set of variations based on a comic aria from a popular opera of his time. Written for piano trio, the piece opens with a dramatic slow introduction before giving way to playful, imaginative variations on the lighthearted tune. Schoenfield's *Cafe Music* brings the program to a lively close. Brimming with jazz, klezmer, and folk influences, this energetic trio captures the spontaneous, free-spirited atmosphere of a vibrant café — a joyful celebration of musical styles from around the world.
