Thompson has graced major stages and media platforms such as Lincoln Center, the Detroit Jazz Festival, and NPR Tiny Desk. Thompson Born in New Jersey and a graduate of The Juilliard School, Thompson announced himself early as a major talent. In 2018, he won second place at the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition and received Lincoln Center's Emerging Artists Award. In 2019, he was selected for Wynton Marsalis's Young Stars of Jazz project, touring Europe and performing at the Jazz in Marciac festival — the same year he joined legendary swing guitarist John Pizzarelli's trio, a collaboration that continues today. After receiving the 2023 American Piano Awards, he was appointed in 2024 as the youngest faculty member in Juilliard's history. Rooted in the blues and gospel foundations of jazz, his music offers a deeply spiritual experience — expressing reverence for the divine and a profound love for the art form he was born to play.
