**PROGRAM NOTES** The program opens with Debussy's **Rêverie**, a quietly flowing piece that drifts through hazy, dreamlike harmonies — a perfect introduction to the evening's introspective mood. Next comes Chopin's **Waltz No. 5 in A-flat Major**, a sparkling and vivacious work that showcases Chopin's gift for elegant, dancing melody. Chopin's **Barcarolle in F-sharp Major** follows — one of his most beloved late works. Inspired by the gentle rocking of Venetian gondolas, it unfolds with warmth, poetry, and quiet passion. Scriabin's **Piano Sonata No. 4** marks a shift in atmosphere. The opening Andante is tender and searching, before the Prestissimo volando ("flying at great speed") erupts in a whirlwind of ecstatic energy. From Schubert's **Impromptus Op. 90**, we hear the second and third pieces: a spirited Allegro full of rushing energy, followed by a gentle, song-like Andante of rare simplicity and beauty. The concert closes with Rachmaninoff's monumental **Piano Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor** — a sweeping, dramatic work rich in lush melody and virtuosic brilliance, performed here in a specially arranged edition.
