[PROGRAM NOTE] **Gustav Mahler: Piano Quartet in A minor** This is one of the few surviving works from Mahler's student years at the Vienna Conservatory, composed when he was around 16. Only the first movement, marked *Nicht zu schnell* ("Not too fast"), remains — the rest of the quartet was never completed or has been lost. Despite its unfinished nature, the work already hints at the emotional intensity and dramatic sensibility that would define his later symphonic output. It is a remarkable glimpse into the early imagination of one of history's greatest composers. --- **Robert Schumann: Piano Quartet in E-flat Major, Op. 47** Composed in 1842 — a year Schumann devoted almost entirely to chamber music — this quartet is widely regarded as one of the finest works in the genre. The piano and strings are treated as true equals, engaging in rich, lyrical conversation throughout. The opening movement unfolds with a grand, searching introduction before blossoming into a warm Allegro. A sparkling Scherzo follows, brimming with rhythmic energy. The slow movement is among Schumann's most tender and songful inspirations, while the finale brings the work to a spirited and satisfying close. --- **Gabriel Fauré: Piano Quartet No. 1 in C minor, Op. 15** Fauré worked on this quartet over several years, completing it in 1879. It was an immediate success and remains one of his most beloved chamber works. The music balances passion and elegance in a way that is distinctly French — emotionally expressive yet always refined. The opening movement surges with energy and drive, while the Scherzo dances with light, mercurial grace. The Adagio is deeply intimate and quietly moving. The finale returns with vivid momentum, bringing the quartet to a brilliant and exhilarating conclusion.
