Eisenstein, sentenced to prison for a minor offense, decides to spend his last night of freedom at a glamorous party. His friend Dr. Falke secretly orchestrates the evening as an elaborate act of revenge — the so-called "Bat's Revenge" — for a past prank, maneuvering all the key characters into one place. At the party, Eisenstein's wife Rosalinde appears in disguise to test her husband's faithfulness, while their maid Adele poses as a sophisticated lady, dreaming of a better life. With everyone hiding their true identity, the night spirals into a delightful whirlwind of flirtation and deception. The next day, all is revealed within the walls of a prison — and the whole wonderful chaos is blamed, with a wink, on champagne. The evening ends in laughter and reconciliation.
