About this show
## Performance Introduction **Rising Stars from the New York and Indonesian Straight-Ahead Jazz Scenes β First Visit to Korea** If you follow straight-ahead jazz or enjoy pianist Emmet Cohen's *Emmet's Place*, you may have already caught tenor saxophonist Jacob Chung in action. The New York jazz scene β a magnet for exceptional young talent from around the world β is always on the lookout for the next exciting voice. Emmet Cohen himself has said that when he asked around, "Who's the next young guy?", Jacob Chung was the name that came back. Born in 2000 and just 26 years old, Jacob is widely regarded as one of the most promising next-generation players working today. In 2024, he was named Best Soloist in DownBeat Magazine's Student Music Edition, and he has already won over jazz fans with his remarkably smooth, centered tone β even at blazing tempos. For those familiar with Indonesia's straight-ahead jazz scene, Kevin Yosua needs no introduction. Based in Bali, he has been a steadfast champion of acoustic jazz as the founder and curator of Legato Jazz Club, and through initiatives like Legato Jazz Camp and Jazz Marathon, he continues to inject fresh energy into Indonesia's jazz community. The Kevin Yosua Trio is led by bassist Kevin Yosua, with Hansen Arif on drums and Rio Manuel on piano. Also born in 2000, pianist Rio Manuel is another rising star representing the next generation of Indonesian jazz. His light, bouncy touch brings an irresistible sense of joy to every performance. Known for their dynamic interplay and musical sophistication, the Kevin Yosua Trio made history in 2025 by becoming the first Asian band to win the New Generation Jazz Lab competition in Switzerland, earning a coveted performance slot at the Festival da Jazz in St. Moritz. The pairing of these three spirited Indonesian musicians with New York's own Jacob Chung promises an evening full of hard-swinging, bebop-fueled excitement β a true celebration of straight-ahead jazz at its finest. --- **Highlights** - **Point 1.** Electrifying performances from Jacob Chung, one of New York's most buzzed-about young saxophonists - **Point 2.** The Kevin Yosua Trio's first visit to Korea β Indonesia's most outstanding straight-ahead jazz ensemble - **Point 3.** A set rooted in classic jazz standards, blending timeless swing and bebop in the most satisfying way
