# Coexistence of the Incompatible **A stage where dance, words, and experimentation meet — an experimental lecture performance that opens questions together.** *Coexistence of the Incompatible* is a new work by choreographer Jo Inho, whose practice is rooted in Korean traditional dance. Rather than presenting a single, polished performance, the work lays out a series of attempts and questions on stage. The piece begins by asking: *What is dance? What is a performance?* Instead of showing finished movement, it unravels layers of embodied experience and examines them one by one. Things that resist being together — tradition and the present, watching and experiencing, living and disappearing — are not forced into unity. They are placed side by side, out of sync, exactly as they are. Where you sit shapes what you see and hear. Some audience members share the same breath as the performers up close; others take in the whole picture from a distance. Alongside movement, the stage is inhabited by spoken word, sound, light, and darkness — offering fifty minutes to be felt with the entire body, not just watched. --- We come to see the same performance, yet we never quite see the same thing. The stage begins by breathing with its audience. Carefully refined dance unravels piece by piece, and things that cannot coexist find themselves standing in the same place. Watching and experiencing, tradition and now, presence and disappearance sit briefly side by side — unable to fully meet. At times the dancing stops and words cut in; at other times, movement erupts from every direction at once. Then, as the light slowly fades, the dance that can no longer be seen is rediscovered — somewhere inside each person watching. What remains is different for everyone.
