Emptying the Mind on Busan's Geumjeongsan

Beomeosa Temple, founded by the Silla Buddhist monk Uisang, is considered one of the three great temples of the Yeongnam region, alongside Haeinsa and Tongdosa. As one of the ten head temples of the Hwaeom school of Buddhism, historical records from the Silla period indicate it was established during the reign of King Heungdeok. However, it remains relatively lesser known, overshadowed by Haeundae and Nampo-dong — Busan's most famous tourist destinations. The temple sits alongside Geumjeongsan Mountain on the northern outskirts of Busan, making it a great destination whether you choose to hike through the area or drive up. The road leading up to Sanseong Village is scenic enough to qualify as a worthy drive in itself. After sampling the village's signature specialties — Sanseong makgeolli rice wine and grilled goat — why not shake off your fatigue with a soak at Dongrae Hot Springs? Rounding out the day with Dongrae pajeon, a savory pancake generously packed with seafood and spring onions, sounds like the perfect ending to a full day out.
